Four More

Bullet Wins Four

Activity  at the Bullet Complex is increasing at staggering pace.  The fields are rarely used by one team at a time.  The cages are full all the time.  The parking lot is overflowing.  And what does Bullet have to show for it?  Four more tournament wins.

With eight Bullet teams using the facility and the increase in demand for lessons from Bullet coaches, there is always something going on at the complex.  It takes a good deal of planning and a lot of working together to get everybody their work in.  One would think that there would be signs of frustration.  Instead you see coaches eager to work together with other coaches.  You see families lounging in the sun enjoying the afternoon of baseball.  All is well.  And did I tell you that we have four more tournament wins?

The past two weeks, Bullet has played in tournaments in Baton Rouge, Crowley and Breaux Bridge.  Here is a short rundown for each team.

Bullet 8’s played in a the March Madness tournament at Cypress Mounds.  After an impressive tournament win the previous weekend, they faltered by going 0-3.  Better luck this weekend.

Bullet 9’s continue their strong play by winning their second tournament of the season in the Breaux Bridge tournament.  Their Sunday spectaculars included a walk off  homerun and a triple play.  They were 4-0 on the weekend.

The Bullet 10’s also played at the March Madness tournament at Cypress mounds and won their second tournament of the season.  Their only loss came to the Mandeville Storm in pool play.  They later avenged that loss in the championship game by beating the Mandeville Storm 3-1.  They were 4-1 on the weekend and are 10-1 on the season.

The Bullet 11 Blue team played in the March Madness tournament and placed fifth.  They had a few tough breaks in areas that they couldn’t control.  Before the weekend was over, a moral victory was won.  But the damage was done.  They were 1-2 on the weekend and are now 2-2-1 on the season.

The Bullet 11 Red team played up a division in the Crowley Invitational.  They were 4-0 on the weekend and won their third straight tournament.  The Red team outscored their opponents 34-8.  Leading the offensive attack were Tyler Booth, Kyle Griffen, Derrick Scott and Andrew Mire. Pitchers for the Bullets were Dustin Guidry, Brandon Funderberg, Elliott Butler and Tyler Booth. Their season record is now 10-0.

The Bullet 12’s have been busy playing in both weekends.  After seeding high in the March Madness tournament at Cypress Mounds, the 12’s dropped their first game on Sunday, placing fifth.  They returned to action the following weekend at the Bayou Bash tournament in Breaux Bridge with a never say die attitude and won their first tournament of the year.  They lost their first pool game, but went on to win their next three games getting stronger each time.  Gavin Doucet teamed up with newcomer Keelan Jackson to pitch a no-hit shutout in the championship game.  Keelan also hit a homerun in the game. Top hitters for the 12’s were Braden Nevla, Brant McNease, Austin Cholley and Jacob Stracner. They were 3-1 on the weekend and are now 7-5 on the season.

The Bullet 13’s were in action at the Bayou Bash tournament in Breaux Bridge.  They were playing up with the 14aaa teams.   Although they went 1-2 on the weekend, they can proudly say the beat the eventual champions on Saturday. They held the older team to one run on Saturday and three runs on Sunday.  “Alex Bel pitched an outstanding game”, says coach Owen Clanton. “And the defense played great behind him.”  The 13’s are now 4-4 on the season.

The always busy Bullet 14’s played at the March Madness tournament in Baton Rouge.  They were 1-2 on the weekend and earned a third place finish.  They lost to the eventual champions, Louisiana Tigers, in pool play and the semi-finals.

They were also 1-2 this past weekend in series of games setup by coach Landreneau.  The 14’s dug themselves in a hole early against the Outlaws and fought back hard only to come up short, 10-8.  The second game was gem.  A 3-0 shutout thrown by Colin Kober and Gabe Nevla against the Jackhammers.  The third game was a close loss to, you guessed it, the Louisiana Tigers. A 9-8 loss in which the winning run was walked in in extra innings.  Jake Stuart was top hitter for this past weekend.  The 14’s are now officially 8-2, unofficially 9-4.

Action resumes for most teams in Thibodeaux this weekend.  The Thibodeaux Terror tournament is a fundraiser similar to the Bullet Invitational.  It has been reported that the number of teams is high and the level of competition is higher.  If the weather holds out, then it should be a great weekend of baseball and with a little luck we can bring home a few more tournament wins!
