Bullet 9’s Win in Grand Fashion

Bullet 9’s Win in Grand Fashion

Wow!  That is all you can say!  The Bullet 9’s are turning it on!  And they know how to make it exciting.

This young team of miniature ballplayers kept the crowd at the Bayou Bash on their feet.  How ‘bout to the tune of a walk off grand slam that got them to the championship game?  Well it gets even better!  How ‘bout the rarely seen triple play?  And these kids are NINE!!

“The triple play and the grand slam are the plays everyone will remember”, said coach Shane Hebert, “but there were a lot of big time plays that kept us alive all weekend.”

“You had Casey Trosclaire that caught the  line drive in right and Devon Pauley with the awesome sliding backhand play. And Ryan Smith was lights-out defensively all weekend.  It was a total team effort.  Every player stepped up and made  the necessary plays for us to have the opportunity to win the championship.”

The Bullet 9’s won their first two games of the weekend 7-1 (Vermillion A’s) and 4-2 (Iron Pigs) behind the arms of Nick Guillory, Tanner Young and Will Dion.  A clutch hit by Scott Jones sparked the offense.

“The key on Saturday was our pitching.” said coach Hebert “We pounded the zone all day and we gave up only three runs.”

Coach Hebert received a complete game pitching performance out of Chance Stone in the semi-final game in which they beat the Iron Pigs 12-3.  And that’s where it happened.  With the Bullets leading 8-3, Casey Guillory walked to load the bases bringing up Grant Cholley.  Cholley’s grand slam ended the game and sent the Bullets to the finals.

The  championship game featured the Bullet 9’s against their second year rival, Bayou Sluggers.  It was a close the whole game.  Logan Guillory started for the Bullets and pitched a great game before being relieved by Rhett Hebert late in the game.   Hebert inherited runners on second and third with no outs and the game tied when the first batter he faced hit a line drive back at him in which he made a nice catch.  Instinctively he turned  and threw the ball to Devon Pauley at second base for the second out.   Pauley then threw the ball home where Garret Guidry made a diving tag to complete the triple play.

The Bullets then carried the momentum to the offense and scored three runs.   Pitcher Rhett Hebert teamed up with Will Dion to make the final three outs and the Bullets win.

The Bullet 9’s have now won two of the last three tournaments and placed second in a rain shortened tournament by virtue of seeding.  The Bullet 9’s will see their farthest travel this weekend when they play in the Thibodeaux Terror tournament in Thibodeaux, LA.

Good luck Bullets!  Keep the train rolling.
